Digital Poster Project

Task: Make two poster , Size = 11" x 17" which explore one theme or idea relating to social activism.

                                     Poster #1

"My Body Parts Do not Define My Gender"

This poster's intent is to display the discomforting feeling that young children get when they believe that their gender identity is not the same as their biological sex. The standardized colours "blue and pink" are seen everywhere today in stores which sell toys, cloths, and accessories, etc. for either girls('pink') or boys ('blue'). I believe that this may be quite frustrating for the youth where as they are almost forced or pressured into fitting into one of these categories. In reality, colours should not have a gender. There are many children who do not simply classify as either or, or do not consider themselves to be cisgender (meaning : denoting or relating to a person whose self-identity conforms with the gender that corresponds to their biological sex). Therefore for both poster #1 and #2 i have used a neutral color which does not represent a specific gender.

Poster #2

"Gender Neutral Parenting"

This poster's intent is to convey an awareness of gender neutral parenting. Although this poster shows a mother pregnant with a child, in today's time it is seen that there are many other ways to become parents. I believe that gender neutral parenting could be beneficial to a child and can simply let them be who they really are without any influences of stereotypical gender roles and notions of what they should be. An example of gender neutral parenting could be the use of words or pronouns that are
free of gender.

Monoprints, Multiples, Mixed media and Mail art

Collaborative lithograph project with the first year class

Lithography :is a method of printing originally based on the immiscibility of oil and water. Printing is from a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a smooth surface.

Fun fact : If you are to use text in your creation , you must write backwards!

Monoprinting

- A monoprint is a single impression of an image made from a reprintable block. Materials such as metal plates, lithographic stones, Plexiglas, or wood blocks are used for etching upon. Rather than printing multiple copies of a single image, only one impression may be produced, either by painting or making a collage on the block

This was made by cutting out a figure from a magazine, and by pasting it onto the Plexiglas after the surface was inked. i repeated this technique with the paper that was cut away from the image to get the opposite of the first result.

"The View From Here"

The following two photos are of the prints that were made for the Mailing Art project which had an over all theme of "the view from here" After completion, the art was mailed to the student of the fine arts program at Mount Allison Univertsity in Sackville Newbrunswick.

Experimental monoprints using a range of tools such as ,smudging paper towel, toothpick, q tips, spoons and spatulas

For these prints i had applied acrylic paint after the ink was dry!

Water color on Plexiglas

How to:
-First apply a small amount of dish soap onto the Plexiglas, and let dry completely
- let paper soak in water for 10 minutes
-apply water color (not acrylics) to Plexiglas and let dry completely
-after the paint is dry place paper over the print and burnish with a spoon
result:
